Ooo, this is a controversial one! Doctors have been split for decades on whether alcohol in moderation is good for you, since those first landmark studies that showed the polyphenols in red wine could actually have a protective effect against heart disease. One of the major reasons that people go to nightclubs in London (and worldwide!) is the opportunity to have a dance, a chat, and hear some tunes in a sociable, yet also alcohol-tinted, environment. If you keep your drinking to moderate levels, and abstain through the rest of the week, some studies suggest that you might find several health benefits from drinking alcohol at London nightclubs. What are those benefits?

Thrombosis
A study has found that thrombosis rates are lower among moderate drinkers than among teetotallers, probably due to the anticoagulant properties of alcohol. It acts in a similar way to Warfarin, preventing thromboses forming inside major arteries.
Cardiovascular health
Moderate drinking is said to improve cardiovascular health, possibly through the action of antioxidants in drinks like red wine protecting arteries from damage by free radicals. Debate rages over whether trying to improve your cardio health through moderate drinking is sensible - but any dancing you do while drinking at your London nightclub is less in medical doubt!
Stroke risk
The risk of stroke has been seen to be halved among moderate drinkers compared to teetotallers, according to a study reported in the American Heart Association journal. Another study published in the same journal indicated that this was independent of sex, age and ethnicity. Stroke risk is also closely linked to cardiovascular health, and numerous studies have shown moderate drinking to have positive effects on cardio health.
Gallstones
Not a pleasant condition to have, any while few young people need to worry about it, there is no time like the present to start acting for the future. When the prescription is for something as pleasant as low-risk drinking at nightclubs in London, at levels that don't even cause a hangover the next day, I can think of much worse ways to get rid of gallstones!
