London - Places to Visit

London is a wonderful place to visit, but if you have never been there before, you can easily become overwhelmed with all the things to see and do in the capital of England. And, there are many more things to do while visiting London than could ever be listed here, but you will find below some highlights while you are there.

The home of London royalty, Buckingham Palace should be at the top of your list. At Buckingham, you will get a chance to see the amazing architecture, the beautiful gardens, and the famous London Guard at the gates. The palace is breathtaking, and certainly worth a visit.

Westminster Abbey is a historical and architectural wonder that is definitely worth a visit. In fact, if you arrive at the right time, you can observe the “evensong” service that takes place in the evenings. Or, if you prefer, you can pay for a tour of the Abbey.

While the Tower of London was once a terrible prison for royalty, it is now a breathtaking museum where you will learn its interesting history and the many legends that surround the icon. You will also get a chance to glimpse of the famous and beautiful crown jewels.

Hyde Park is famous for many reasons. One is that it was once the hunting grounds for Henry VIII, one of England’s most notable kings. It is also the largest royal park in the country. And, now, it is known for the many people who go to the park to speak their mind. It is sort of a soapbox for the common man.

Shakespeare’s Globe Theater will be a wonderful experience for anyone interested in theater, history, or Shakespearean plays. The birthplace of much of the Bard’s famous works, this current building is an exact replica of the original Globe.

The Houses of Parliament will be an interesting stop for those who enjoy learning about Britain’s government. You will enjoy a tour and a view of the buildings’ breathtaking architecture.

As mentioned, this is only a taste or a jumping off point for people visiting London. There is so much more to see: Big Ben, The LondonBridge, the many museums, and more. The key is to relax, plan your days, consider taking part in a walking tour, and have fun.
